June Update and Covid Response

“FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS - Continued”

“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 ESV

Esther had to contemplate two things. First, she had to choose to take certain risks and make necessary sacrifices to serve the Lord and her people in the best possible way, or to safely let in moment pass. Secondly, she had to determine what she needed to do in order to accomplish her God-given task.

The LAMP staff and volunteers are in total agreement that we should do everything we can to minister to our friends in the remote parts of Northern Canada. Since each team has unique gifts, and each community has unique needs, the ministry will look different in each locale. Teams are using the phone, email, Facebook and even snail mail in order to keep connected to the North.  Since they will not be able to make a summer visit, many of our volunteers are sending love packages to the children of the community. Currently LAMP is working on a virtual VBS which will be utilized through the summer and will provide the children an opportunity to see familiar faces.

At the time of writing this newsletter, I am in Flin Flon delivering 'Community Preparedness Kits' and other essential items. In each community, I have to go through a checkpoint, and can only drop off the packages and leave without a prolonged visit. But I do get a brief visit and share a smile (behind a mask). This small act had great impact on all those that I meet. For a brief moment they were reminded that they are not alone and that people outside of their community are concerned for their health and well-being. They also see that their Heavenly Father will never leave them nor forsake them.

As for myself, this summer I plan to visit each of the communities under my purview in order to keep connected and to continue to build relationships with the clergy, community leaders and all of my First Nations friends. It is my hope to deliver much needed items and even assist with the delivery some of the 'love packages' mentioned above.
LAMP is thrilled to partner with Samaritan's Purse, Native Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, Interact Ministries, North America Indigenous Ministries, Northern Canada Evangelical Mission, Northern Youth Programs, SEND North and UIM International in order to distribute much needed public health supplies to the remote communities of Northern Canada. The photo at the top of the page depicts me receiving some of the items that LAMP is delivering to Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

PRAYER

Please continue to pray for:
  • The People of the North - that communities will remain healthy in mind, body and spirit and remain virus-free. That they will place their hope in the understanding that God is with them always.
  • The Clergy and Christian Leaders - that they can use the current situation to encourage their communities to 'turn their eyes upon Jesus.'
  • LAMP Volunteer Teams - that they find new and innovate ways to minister to their community and that they be encouraged even though they will not have a summer program this year. And that the Lord provide the soonest opportunity  for them to be able to have a face-to-face visit.
  • LAMP Staff - that they remain healthy and focused on doing the God's will in the remote parts of Northern Canada. Pray for their safe travels and that the Lord provide many opportunities to share His love and grace.
